Known as the father of the SEAWINGS national FAA safety program for seaplane pilots and for his many articles and other efforts on behalf of seaplane safety, Dr. Dale DeRemer’s areas of expertise include: aircraft operations and safety, navigation and navigation systems, aerodynamics and aircraft stability and control.  Currently he is Professor Emeritus of Aviation, University of North Dakota Aerospace.  Dr. DeRemer is also an ATP/commercial pilot/instructor with Airplane Single and Multi-engine land and Sea Fixed Wing and Helicopter ratings, a Certified Flight Instructor with Instrument, Multi-engine and Helicopter privileges, and has 20,000 hours of flight experience in many types and models of general aviation aircraft.

Dr. DeRemer has taught aviation at the University level for the past 20 years.  Courses taught include aircraft systems, aerodynamics and performance, human factors, instrument procedures, global navigation, general aviation operations and management, and seaplane and conventional gear operations.  For the past 15 years he has taught advanced seaplane courses to pilots from around the world in wilderness areas from the jungles of Central America to beyond the Arctic Circle.  Dr. DeRemer’s aviation texts, which are used worldwide, include: Aircraft Systems for Pilots, Global Navigation for Pilots, Human Factors and Crew Resource Management for Flight Instructors, Water Flying Concepts and Seaplane Operations.  More recently, he authored the “Navigation Systems” chapter of the new FAA Instrument Flying Handbook.

Recipient of Seaplane Pilot of the Year, the Seaplane Pilots Association, 1988 - named to the EAA/NAFI Flight Instructor Hall of Fame, 1999 - achieved Master Flight Instructor status with the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), 1997.
